Vol. 127 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Greenore Port.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, before a final decision is taken on the closing of Greenore Port, he will have an inquiry made as to the possibility of inaugurating a motor-ferry service between that port and Great Britain in view of tourist requirements and the complaints of heavy freight charges and inadequate accommodation on existing services.

The effective decisions in regard to the port of Greenore were taken in November, 1950, by the Government then in office.

The encouragement of motor-ferry services and other suggestions for ensuring the continued use of the port facilities at Greenore have been under consideration, but it is not yet possible to say whether any such development will prove to be practicable.
