Vol. 127 No. 4

Questions— Written Answers. - Costs of Boat Construction.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give comparable figures of the cost of boats constructed for the Irish Sea Fisheries Association in Irish and Scottish shipyards.

Mr. Walsh

The prices of fishing boats depend on the materials used, the equipment installed and the general layout of the vessel. It is not possible in the circumstances to give figures of cost for boats built in different yards which would be strictly comparable. The experience of the association is that the cost of boats of the 50-foot class supplied by boat-builders in Scotland compares favourably with the cost of boats of that type produced for the association in yards within the State.
