Vol. 127 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - A County Cork Bridge.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a vehicular bridge over the River Feale is necessary at Meeng, Rockchapel, County Cork, and that the footbridge which sufficed for pedestrians at this point is rendered dangerous by recent flooding; and, if so, what remedial measures he proposes to take in consequence.

The provision of such a bridge is primarily a matter for the Cork and Kerry County Councils. There are no proposals regarding it before my Department. I understand, however, that the question is under consideration by both councils.

Would the Minister make representations to the local authorities concerned in view of the fact that in recent weeks, owing to flooding, some 20 children are prevented from attending the local schools?

I would not like to usurp the functions of local authorities in that way.
