Vol. 127 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Whiddy Island Milk Producers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate what progress has been made to the solution of the Whiddy Island milk producers' problem as the islanders are dissatisfied with present arrangements.

Mr. Walsh

I have asked the Dairy Disposals Company to provide creamery facilities on Whiddy Island next season on an experimental basis and that company is at present making the necessary arrangements to that end.

What is the nature of the arrangement?

Mr. Walsh

A travelling creamery.

On Whiddy Island?

Mr. Walsh

You refused to do it. We did.

Are you sending it out by sea?

Will the Minister indicate whether the experimental system includes the separating of the cream on Whiddy Island and the transporting of it to the mainland?

Mr. Walsh

Yes. We separate the cream on Whiddy Island.

Are you sending it out every day by boat?

I can assure the Minister that the people in Whiddy are grateful for the arrangements he has made for them.
