Vol. 127 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Landing Facilities at Arranmore Island.

asked the Minister for Finance if immediate steps will be taken to repair landing facilities at Aphort, Chapel Strand, Cloughcor, and Leabgarrow, all in Arranmore Island, as these repairs are essential for the safety of the islanders and their boats.

The existing landing-places at Aphort, Chapel Strand and Leabgarrow on Arranmore Island are in the charge of the Donegal County Council, and their repair is a matter for that body.

Proposals for the provision of an additional landing-place, south of the existing pier in Aphort, for new landing facilities at Cloughcor, and for the extension of the existing pier and erection of a boatslip north of the pier at Leabgarrow, have been submitted to my office. Owing to a shortage of engineering staff and to the number of similar proposals elsewhere awaiting inspection and survey, I am not in a position to say when these proposals are likely to be dealt with.
