Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Processing Industry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the opening which at present exists for the rapid expansion of exports of chilled, frozen and canned meat to the United States and elsewhere and of the urgent necessity of increasing exports, he will take steps to provide, either through the E.C.A. or directly, technical advice to help the rapid expansion of the meat processing industry.

The steps referred to in the Deputy's question have already been taken and an E.C.A. technician is now in this country in connection with the processing of manufactured meat products.

Officers of my Department have visited the United States and other countries in connection with the meat processing industry and have given advice to exporters as well as exercising supervision over meat exports.
