Vol. 128 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Village Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that when the Kerry County Council considered a report of the county medical officer of health recently in connection with urgent water and sewerage schemes for the county a resolution was passed asking his Department for a full cost grant to cover the extension of water from Ballyferriter village to the village of Ballincolla because of the fact that it was in the Kerry Gaeltacht; and, if so, if he will now state whether the proposal has been considered by his Department and whether it is proposed to allocate a grant to cover the full cost of the scheme.

I am not aware that the county council have passed a resolution on the lines indicated by the Deputy; no copy of such a resolution has yet been received in my Department.

There is no proposal before the Department for the extension of the Ballyferriter water supply to Ballincolla. If such a proposal is submitted and approved consideration will be given to the extent of State assistance to be made available towards the cost of the work. Such assistance is now given, not by way of grant, but as a contribution towards annual loan charges.
