Vol. 128 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Rehabilitation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what amount of the £40,000,000 set aside for land reclamation has been expended in County Cork to date, under the following heads: (a) paid to farmers for works carried out by them; (b) paid for reclamation work carried out directly by the Department in the county; (c) paid to staff operating in the area, and (d) paid for drainage equipment in the county.

I would refer the Deputy to the answer given by me on 22nd November, to questions by Deputies O'Higgins and Killilea.

Can the Minister say when the next periodic report will be circulated?

I do not know when it is due.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the reasons for the hold up in the land rehabilitation scheme in the Collinamuck and Killanin (County Galway) areas and whether, as there is at the moment plenty of labour available to carry out the work, he will arrange to have the work proceeded with without further delay.

The prosecution of land project work depends upon a number of factors other than the seasonal availability of labour. I would refer the Deputy to the reply given on 7th November last to a similar question by Deputy Thomas O'Hara.
