asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in relation to each of the following commodities: unrationed sugar, unrationed butter, condensed milk, confectionery, table jellies, salt, coffee, sauces, vinegar, coal, gas, electricity, turf, boot polish, floor polish, chemical drugs, footwear, bus fares, tobacco, (a) what increases in prices have taken place since the 13th June, 1951; (b) whether or not such increases were recommended by the Prices Advisory Body; (c) the date such recommendations from the Prices Advisory Body were received by him, and (d) whether or not the Prices Advisory Body held public sittings in respect of the applications for such increases.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report a statement giving the particulars required by the Deputy so far as available.

As creamery butter is not available except on ration, a price for unrationed creamery butter is not fixed.

In all cases increased prices and charges were sanctioned on the recommendation of the Prices Advisory Body except in the cases of electricity, bus fares, and sugar. The Prices Advisory Body held a public sitting in connection with the application for an increase in the price of coal in Dublin.

The prices of sauces, vinegar, boot polish, floor polish, chemical drugs, and footwear were subject to the operation of the Prices and Charges (Standstill) Order, 1951, but were removed from the scope of the Order prior to the 13th June, 1951. Salt, coffee and turf ceased to be subject to price control when the Prices and Charges (Standstill) Order was revoked on 5th September, 1951.
