Vol. 128 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sanctioning of Price Increases.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will name the commodities in respect of which price increases were sanctioned by him or by any other Minister since the 13th June, 1951, and further, if he will state in respect of each commodity: (a) the amount of the increase; (b) the date on which the increase became effective; (c) whether the increase was recommended by the Prices Advisory Body; (d) the date on which the recommendation of the Prices Advisory Body was received by him, and (e) which of the commodities are taken into account in compiling the cost-of-living index figure.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to questions put by him on 29th November, 1951, and by Deputies Cosgrave, Norton and MacBride on 31st October, 1951, which contain most of the particulars required by him. In addition, my reply to his Question No. 15 for to-day contains the required particulars for certain specified commodities. I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated with the official report a statement giving the Deputy the information not included in the previous replies referred to so far as increases in prices of commodities were sanctioned by me. Any question concerning price increases approved by any other Minister should be addressed to the Minister concerned. Any question regarding the computation of the cost-of-living index figure should be addressed to the Taoiseach.

Following is the statement referred to:—
