Vol. 128 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dressed Meat Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether a levy is being imposed in respect of dressed meat exported to the U.S.A., Canada and other places; and, if so, the reasons for the levy and the total amount collected to date; further, if he will indicate the total value of exports of dressed meat to date.

No State levy is imposed, but I am aware that exporters of dressed meat to North America have agreed to set aside contributions based on their exports for use by them for certain purposes connected with their business. As these funds are managed by the exporters I am not in a position to indicate the amounts collected.

The value of exports of dressed meat is published monthly in the Trade Statistics compiled by the General Statistics Office.
