asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amounts paid by way of grants for the provision of new primary schools for each year from 1932 to 1951, inclusive, for each county.

The total expenditure by way of grants for the building, enlarging, enclosing and furnishing of national schools in each of the financial years from 1931-32 to 1950-51 (inclusive) was as follows:—

The records of this expenditure are not kept on a county basis nor do they show separately the expenditure on new schools as distinct from improvements, etc. The preparation of a return in the form desired by the Deputy would be a lengthy task and would involve a disproportionate amount of time and labour.
