Vol. 129 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Electricity Supply Board Poles.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will request the Electricity Supply Board to keep as close to the headlands as possible where it is necessary for them to erect poles on arable land and to arrange that where it is found that operations may not be completed before 1st April that they be suspended until 1st October so as not to interfere with tillage operations.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that it is their policy to interfere to the minimum extent with the cultivation of arable land consistent with reasonable economy in the construction of electric lines. In following this policy, the board arrange that as many poles as possible are placed at fences and boundary walls. I am also informed by the board that it would not be feasible to suspend the building of electric lines in each year between 1st April and 1st October as this would very seriously curtail the progress of the construction programme.
