Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Turf.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a large percentage of the turf cut in the barony of Iveragh is still in the hands of the producers; and, if so, whether he will have the necessary arrangements made for the purchase of this turf at an early date.

I have had an examination made of the supply position of turf in the area referred to by the Deputy. The result of my inquiries indicates that 85 per cent. of all turf produced for sale in the area had been disposed of at the end of last December. Producers are reluctant to undertake the work of rendering the balance fit for sale until drying conditions improve with the onset of better weather.
