Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Short-wave Broadcasting Station.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is in a position to state when a wave-length is likely to be allocated to the short-wave broadcasting station.

I am not in a position to say when frequencies will be allotted specifically to the Irish Short-Wave Broadcasting Station. As the Deputy is aware a world short-wave conference held in Italy in 1950 to endeavour to complete a plan for short-wave frequencies came to no result—the unsettled international situation having contributed to the failure. No further conference has since been convened nor is it likely that one will be arranged in the near future.

Will the Minister convey that information to the Minister for External Affairs who stated when he was in opposition that we did not require a wave-length?
