Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) whether his Department received requests for the acquisition of the Fleming estate, Ballinvarrig, Youghal; (2) if the lands have been (a) inspected by his Department and (b) sold since by public auction, and (3) if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring these lands which are at present being used for grazing; and, if so, with what result.

Representations were made to the Land Commission regarding the lands in question. It is proposed to have an inspection made to ascertain if the lands are suitable and available for Land Commission purposes.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reasons for the delay in vesting the lands on the Hickey estate, Ballinvarry, Youghal, in the tenants.

Some allotments on this estate have been vested. The vesting of the remainder has been deferred, pending the improvement of the water supply on the estate.

Is the Minister aware that the vesting of these holdings has been held up for a number of years on that excuse and that these tenants are losing heavily by reason of its being held up? Is it fair that for the sake of the £50 or £60 involved in sinking a proper well on the estate, the tenants should be robbed of £5 to £10 each per year?

Would the Minister say if the tenants in question were class F allottees?

That is a question of which I should have to have notice.

I was arguing with the Deputy for three years and could get no good out of him.

Is Deputy Corry's interest in these tenants to allow some of them to become vested so that they can sell their holdings because they were landless men's holdings? The Deputy will not get away with that.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have acquired the lands of Mrs. Hannah Coughlan, Ballymac-philip, Ballyhooly, County Cork; and, if so, when it is proposed to divide them.

The Land Commission have not acquired Mrs. Coughlan's holdings, but resumption proceedings are in progress.
