Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Forestry Centre.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards the establishment of a forestry centre in the Slieve Bawn area, Strokestown, County Roscommon.

As a result of an inspection of a number of areas offered in this district last May my Department decided to open negotiations for the acquisition of five areas totalling 444 acres. The consent of the Land Commission to sub-division was necessary in four of these cases. When the Land Commission inspector visited the area two of the tenants withdrew their offers. It is proposed to open negotiations in respect of the remaining three offers totalling 342 acres at an early date.
