Vol. 129 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that owing to his Department's delay in providing telephone facilities from Killorglin to Cromane, grave inconvenience and hardship is being imposed on the people resident in that area, particularly the fishermen; and, if so, if he will arrange to have this facility provided in that district at an early date.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of the 15th November to similar questions by Deputies O'Hara and Blowick. The programme for the next financial year has not yet been finally settled but the claims of Cromane will be fully considered.

Is the Minister aware that when last year's programme was being prepared I made special representations to the then Minister and was assured that it would be in this year's programme? Is he aware that for a long number of years I have been making representations regarding this project and will he, now at least, get his Department to regard the matter as urgent? Although the former Minister assured me that it would be considered as an urgent scheme, when it came to final consideration he let us down.

That is a speech, not a question.

Will the present Minister now see that justice is done in this matter? This has been 13 years——

The Deputy will be aware that a call office is likely to be installed either this year or next year. He knows that I will give sympathetic consideration where officials make use of telephone facilities; I have always told the Deputy that.
