Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loss of Employment.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Mr. Patrick Lynch, Scotstown, Stackallen, Navan, County Meath, the herd on the Myles estate, Stackallen, Meath, for 25 years was offered only £150 as settlement for loss of employment; further, if he will state whether the Land Commission satisfied themselves that this man, who lives on a ten-acre farm with his three brothers and who has taken for a number of years ten acres of the Myles estate for grazing, is not entitled to an economic farm, and whether, in the circumstances set out, the Land Commission will review this case and allot him one of the remaining farms on the estate.

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative although the information set out therein is not quite accurate. Mr. Lynch was employed part time only as a herd on this estate and the holding on which he resides with his three unmarried brothers, all elderly, comprises 29 acres of P.L.V. £27 10s. od.

After consideration of all the circumstances the Land Commission, at their discretion and in accordance with their statutory powers, decided not to allot a holding to Mr. Lynch but to award him a gratuity of £150. The Deputy has not furnished any information of which the Land Commission were not already aware, which calls for a review of this case.
