Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Ration Cards.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, when customers are required to transfer their tea, butter and sugar ration coupons to a new supplier on the closing of the shop from which they had been in the habit of getting those foodstuffs, he will arrange that the new supplier will be granted quotas of tea, butter and sugar at the subsidised prices as soon as the customers' coupons are surrendered to him.

Early this year I had occasion to review the previous practice in such cases and I decided that, from then on, the practice should be modified so as to take account of circumstances created by the closing of a shop. Under the revised arrangements, appropriate allowances of rationed tea, butter and sugar will, in circumstances such as the Deputy has mentioned, be made available on application to the traders concerned.

Immediately the transfer is effected in such a case as this?

Yes; it is in operation.
