Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Creamery Butter Allocation.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the report in one of the Dublin newspapers to the effect that Dublin citizens will not be allowed to share in the allocation of Irish creamery butter is correct, and if he will ensure that Dublin is allotted a fair share of the Irish creamery butter in the country.

Mr. Walsh

The ration in Dublin and some other districts is at present being supplied entirely in New Zealand butter. There is not sufficient Irish creamery butter to meet Dublin's ration requirements in such butter and it is impossible to devise a scheme whereby all retailers would be able to supply Irish and New Zealand butter in uniform proportions. The present arrangements in Dublin were instituted at the request of the trade and, in my opinion, have given general satisfaction. The New Zealand butter is, of course, of excellent quality.

We heard that before.
