Vol. 129 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Market for Bacon Pigs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that pig producers in Cork are having difficulty in marketing bacon pigs; and that pigs have been refused at factories and when taken at a later date have been paid for at a reduced price because they had increased in weight in the interval; and, if so, if he will take steps to provide a suitable outlet for these pigs as otherwise farmers will again be forced out of production.

Mr. Walsh

My information is that all pigs offered by producers in Cork to the bacon factories there have been accepted by one or other of those factories.

I am afraid that the Minister's information is not correct.

Mr. Walsh

My information is that no pigs were returned home.
