Vol. 129 No. 8

- Haulbowline Berth Construction.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will indicate when it is expected to have the 24ft. berth, at present under construction at Haulbowline, completed and whether he will expedite the building of the 31ft. extension, which is necessary to accommodate ocean-going tankers, in order that our oil storage may be more widely distributed, and in view of defence preparations.

The jetty at present under construction at Haulbowline will, it is expected, be completed about the end of June next. The question of later extending this jetty to accommodate vessels of up to 31-foot draught is under consideration and a final decision in the matter will be taken as soon as possible.

Does the asking of this question mean that the harbour board is giving up the idea of a joint crane at Blackrock Castle to lift the ships over the Rock?

I do not know anything about that.
