Vol. 129 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Offaly Road Maintenance.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Clonbrin road, near Rathangan, County Offaly, was repaired by the Land Commission last year, and that local ratepayers desire that the Land Commission should give over this road to the Offaly County Council to be in future maintained by them; and, if so, if he will state what progress has been made in this connection, and what the position is concerning this road as far as the Land Commission are concerned.

The road in question has been repaired by the Land Commission. There are some obstacles, which are at present under examination, in the way of a direct offer of the road by the Land Commission to the county council. However, if the county council decide to take over the road, the Land Commission will raise no objection.

Would the Minister undertake to request the Land Commission to inform the county council of that decision because I understand that the Offaly County Council are waiting to hear from the Land Commission as to whether the Land Commission will object to the council acquiring the road?

I am informing them now in the most public manner.
