asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the funds derived from the sale of turkeys abroad by Eggsports, Limited, are kept separate from those derived from the sale of eggs and fowl; and whether he proposes to continue the practice of devoting any surplus realised in one export season to supplementing prices payable to producers of turkeys in the next subsequent export season.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Funds from Turkey Exports.
Mr. Walsh
The answer to the first part of the question is yes. As regards the second part of the question, any surplus would be available if the necessity arose, for the purpose mentioned. So far, however, the necessity has not arisen.
The Minister has not replied to the second half of my question which is as follows:-
"... and whether he proposes to continue the practice of devoting any surplus realised in one export season to supplementing prices payable to producers of turkeys in the next subsequent export season."
In short, if there was a surplus in exports in respect of turkeys after Christmas, 1951, will that surplus be applied to the turkey price in respect of exports related to Christmas 1952?
Mr. Walsh
1951, yes.
The surplus will be applied to turkeys in 1952?
Mr. Walsh
I can tell the Deputy that that fund is still intact.
And will be applied only to turkeys and will not be drawn on for eggs?
Mr. Walsh
Not for eggs.
I am much obliged to the Minister.
