Vol. 131 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Insurance Companies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total amount of money collected by foreign insurance companies operating in the Republic of Ireland in each of the years 1949, 1950, 1951.

The total amount collected by foreign insurance companies, including syndicates of Lloyds' underwriters, transacting insurance business here was £7,210,939 in 1949 and £7,760,582 in 1950. The figure for 1950 is provisional, and the figure for 1951 is not yet available as the statutory returns for that year are not due for submission to me until the end of 1952.

Does that include life and all other risks?

Yes, a certain class of life.
