Vol. 131 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grain Importers, Limited.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (1) whether all bulk importations of grain coming into this country are imported by Grain Importers (Éire), Limited; (2) if this company decide where the cargoes of grain are purchased; (3) the names of the directors of the company; (4) who appoints them, and (5) for what period they serve office.

The answer to part 1 of the question is yes.

No purchases of grain are made by the company except with the approval of the Minister for Industry and Commerce in the case of wheat, and of the Minister for Agriculture in the case of coarse grains.

The names of the present directors are as follows: Thomas William Henry Davies, Douglas Thomas Figgis, Gerald Maurice Goodbody, William John Green, Thomas Dennehy Hallinan, Algernon Ashley Odlum.

The directors are the only members of the company, and as members they have the right in law of appointing directors. In fact, however, they accept any suggestions of the Minister as to who should be invited to act on the board.
