Vol. 131 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon and Peal.

andMr. Kyne asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in order to protect fishermen who are paid a low price for salmon described as peal, but subsequently sold as ordinary salmon by traders, he will each year prescribe the weight of salmon which shall be described as peal.

As stated in the reply to a question on this subject by Deputy Kyne on the 12th July last the distinction between "salmon" and "grilse" or "peal" is a matter of trade practice and is not in any way governed by statute. The fishery authority has no power to make regulations as suggested in the question.
