Vol. 131 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Electricity Generating Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the considerable extent of turbary in the districts of Emlaghpaiste, Ballard, Mingueda, Cannig, Dromid and Filemore, County Kerry, he will arrange for the establishment by the Electricity Supply Board of a turfgenerating station in that area.

The Electricity Supply Board, in conjunction with Bord na Móna, is examining the possibility of utilising hand-won turf either alone or with turf produced by semi-automatic machines in small generating stations in bog areas which are not suitable for large-scale machine development. The examination of the various aspects of this problem will take some time but the merits of the County Kerry bogs will receive careful consideration in connection with any such projects.
