Vol. 131 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Generation Costs.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what is the cost per unit of electricity generated at (1) Arnacrusha, (2) Cliff, (3) Poulaphouca, (4) Golden Falls, (5) Leixlip, (6) Pigeon House, (7) North Wall and (8) Portarlington during 1950-51 and 1951-52.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the accounting records for the year 1951-52 have not yet been completed and that consequently it is not possible, at present, to state the average unit costs of electricity generated at the stations during that year.

The average costs per unit for the year 1950-51 were:—

Ardnacrusha

0.22 pence.

Poulaphouca

Golden Falls

0.65 ,,

Leixlip

Pigeon House

0.96 ,,

North Wall

0.89 ,,

Portarlington

1.09 ,,

Individual costs in respect of the Liffey stations are not available.

Cliff station on the River Erne only came into operation during the year 1950-51 and as a partial development and consequently normal capital charges have had to be approximated. Subject to that qualification the average unit cost of generation at Cliff was 0.38 pence. The figures include the cost of supervision at the stations but they do not include any allocation of the general administrative expenditure of the board.
