Vol. 131 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Marketing Board.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will take steps to give adequate representation to potato growers on the Potato Marketing Board.

The question of providing for additional representation for potato growers on the board of directors of the Irish Potato Marketing Company is under active consideration.

Can the Minister say what representation the producers have on the board? Is it not a board that is purely representative of factors?

The matter was discussed with the directors of the potato board on the 7th instant and it will also be discussed with a deputation of Macra na Feirme very soon.

Is not this a marketing board and is it not, therefore, to be constituted of persons who market potatoes? Is it not true that if the producers desire to have representation upon it their remedy is to form co-operative selling units and sell their own potatoes, which they should have done long ago if they had any sense?
