Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar Consumption.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of sugar released for consumption in the financial years ending 31st March, 1950, 1951 and 1952, and the amount in each year released at subsidised and unsubsidised prices.

The amounts of sugar sold by Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann Teo. in each of the financial years mentioned were as follows: Year ended 31st March, 1950, 113,885 tons; year ended 31st March, 1951, 139,199 tons; year ended 31st March, 1952, 144,495 tons. The amounts sold in the year ended 31st March, 1950, at subsidised and unsubsidised prices were, respectively, 53,305 tons and 60,580 tons.

There was no Exchequer subsidy paid in respect of sugar sold by the company in the financial years 1950-51 and 1951-52. The sales of unrationed sugar in these two years were 85,672 tons and 90,765 tons, respectively.
