Vol. 132 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Passenger Boat Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will recommend to the Irish Tourist Board the desirability of encouraging and assisting local enterprises to initiate a passenger boat service on the Shannon from Limerick to Carrick-on-Shannon with a possible extension to Lough Ree via the Boyle River, calling at Killaloe, Dromineer, Portumna, Banagher, Clonmacnoise, Athlone, Lanesboro, Termonbarry and Carrick-on-Shannon.

I will bring the Deputy's suggestion to the notice of An Bord Fáilte for consideration on its merits from the point of view of tourist traffic development.

I should mention that any vessel which it is proposed to use for a passenger service on the Shannon must pass a survey by officers of my Department before a passenger certificate can be issued by me in respect of the vessel.
