Vol. 132 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Grants in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount allocated to West Cork for minor employment and bog development schemes this year, and the areas where allocations are to be made.

Grants are sanctioned for the carrying out of minor employment schemes in the winter period, when unemployment is at its maximum. It is too early, at this stage, to say what allocations will be made under this heading, in the current financial year.

A programme of bog drainage schemes is at present being prepared, but particulars of the schemes to be carried out in West Cork will not be available for another few weeks. A programme of bog road works will be prepared at a later stage.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary state when these schemes are likely to be put into operation and when they will be submitted?

So far as the bog drainage schemes are concerned they will be notified in a few weeks, and then it will be the duty of the inspector in charge, with the assistant county surveyor, to go on with it.
