Vol. 132 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commission on Fertilisers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what was the amount of commission per ton paid to the merchants on the fertilisers imported in each of the years 1950 and 1951.

Mr. Walsh

No commission was paid to merchants in respect of fertilisers imported at the instance of the Minister for Agriculture. I have no information as to the commercial conditions of the importation and sale of any other fertilisers.

Did not the Minister, in reply to a question in this House last year state that one of the causes that was adding to the cost of fertilisers was the commission paid to merchants?

Mr. Walsh

I do not think so — the commission paid to importers.

Was it the commission paid to importers?

Mr. Walsh

Possibly.
