Vol. 132 No. 13

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as set out in the Order Paper in the following order: Nos. 2, 5 (Votes 60 to 66, inclusive), 6, 8, 9 and 10. It is proposed that the consideration of Public Business be not interrupted to take Private Deputies' Business.

I do not want to interfere with a Government decision in regard to the Order of Business because I am aware that under Standing Orders they are entitled to make that decision. However, I must protest against the fact that Votes 8, 9 and 10 are being delayed. These three Votes are very important to rural Deputies. Vote 8 was introduced last night. It is proposed that to-day the Estimate for the Department of Social Welfare will be discussed. That Estimate will be under discussion in this House for the next two or three weeks. At the end of that time we shall go back and take Votes 8, 9 and 10. It is most unfair and it should not be done.

It is reasonable to assume that if the Dáil reaches Vote 8 to-day the debate on that Vote is not likely to conclude to-day. Therefore, Deputies who are not here to-day will still have an opportunity of expressing their views on it.

We shall not reach it for the next fortnight.

It was explained yesterday why the Social Welfare Estimates will be taken to-day.

It is unfair on the Parliamentary Secretary as well.

That is a great consideration.

What time is it intended to rise to-day?

It is proposed to sit until 5 o'clock this afternoon.

When do we meet next week?

Next Tuesday.
