Vol. 133 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cleaning of Blackwater.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is prepared to give a grant under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the cleaning of the River Blackwater at Fermoy bridge.

The allocation of a grant for a work under the Local Authorities (Works) Act is considered on receipt of proposals for work submitted by local authorities who are responsible in the first instance for the preparation and selection of suitable works to be put forward. The only proposal before the Department at present in relation to the River Blackwater at Fermoy is one submitted by the Fermoy Urban District Council for clearing weeds from the side of the river in the vicinity of the bridge. This work is at present under examination and the local authority will be informed in due course of the outcome of such examination.
