Vol. 134 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Production Costings.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state if the milk production costings being taken at present include a definite sum for interest on capital and for farm management; and if he is aware that such items appear on all balance sheets on which the price of the products of industrial firms is fixed and that the absence of these two items from other milk production costings was taken advantage of by interested parties to point out an artificially low and untrue cost of production of milk ; and, if so, if he will ensure that this injustice is removed from milk production costs.

Mr. Walsh

This is a matter for the Milk Production Costs Committee, which has been assigned the task of investigating and reporting on the cost of milk production. I am not, of course, aware of what costing methods the committee will follow, but I am sure that this expert body will advert to all relevant factors before submitting their report.
