Vol. 134 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Naval Vessels in County Donegal Port.

asked the Minister for Defence if any Irish naval vessel has called at the transatlantic port of Moville, County Donegal, since the establishment of the Irish State; and, if so, the name of such vessel and the date of call.

Since the formation of the Marine Service in 1939, now known as the Naval Service, none of our vessels has had occasion to use Moville Port.

In view of the fact that Moville is a transatlantic port would the Minister not consider that a courtesy visit at least should be paid to Moville by one of our naval vessels particularly as it is very much frequented by the ships of other nations.

We would always be prepared to consider that. On the occasion on which the request was made we were unfortunately committed to a visit elsewhere and were not able to carry out a visit to Moville at the time but the matter will be kept under consideration.
