Vol. 134 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed and Ware Potato Markets.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will make appropriate arrangements to ensure that the County Galway farmers will not suffer difficulty in finding a market for the disposal of both their certified seed potatoes and ware potatoes, as was their experience last year.

I would refer the Deputy to the answer to a similar question by him on 24th July last.

Would the Minister be gracious enough to refresh my memory sufficiently by repeating the reply he gave me on that occasion?

Mr. Walsh

The reply was that there were no potatoes left in Galway last year. All the potatoes were disposed of.

May I regretfully inform the Minister that his source of information is entirely incorrect?

Mr. Walsh

My source of information is as good as the Deputy's.

I have had personal experience of a number of farmers who were unable completely or partly to dispose of their potatoes last year. I do hope they will not have a similar experience this year.

Mr. Walsh

If the Deputy gives me particulars I will have an investigation made.
