asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the consumption, in gallons, of spirits in the months of May, June, July, August and September of this year and the amounts for the same periods in 1951.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consumption of Spirits.
No particulars of the consumption of spirits are available. I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a tabular statement setting out the particulars of the net quantities of spirits retained for home use in the periods mentioned by the Deputy. These figures, however, cannot be construed as an accurate guide to consumption as the pattern may be largely affected by the accumulation or depletion of duty-paid stocks in the hands of the distributive trades.
Following is the statement:—
SPIRITS (OTHER THAN PERFUMED SPIRITS, SPIRITS DELIVERED FOR METHYLATION, SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES, FORTIFYING WINES, AND USE IN ARTS AND MANUFACTURES).
