Vol. 134 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas Eviction.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will cause inquiries to be made into the eviction of three families from White House, Finglas, Dublin, and if he will request a copy of the proposals regarding the future use of the site which were made by the town planning officer of the Dublin Corporation.

I have no functions in the matter referred to in the first part of the question. As regards the second part, I will await any proposals on the matter which the corporation may see fit to submit in due course.

Mr. A. Byrne

Would the Minister say if he has made any inquiries at all that would permit him to answer the question about the eviction of families from a house that may at an early date be used for public improvement; and if it is for public improvement surely they are entitled to get houses under the various Acts which the Minister is in charge of?

On what right or authority would I make inquiries in regard to a matter in which I have completely and absolutely no function?

Mr. A. Byrne

Does the Minister not approve of everything concerning housing or road-making?

I am not responsible for the acts of all individuals in the country.

Mr. A. Byrne

But the Minister would be responsible for making inquiries to see that no injustice is done to any tenant of a house that is required for a public purpose.
