Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of National Health Insurance Agents.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether in view of the great increase in their duties by reason of recent legislation relating to social services he will consider increasing the remuneration of national health insurance agents.

It is not anticipated that the recent legislation relating to social services will involve any material increase in the duties of agents and accordingly the question of increased remuneration for additional work does not arise.

The transition from the old to the new scheme of social insurance has, however, involved some temporary additional work by certain agents and gratuities for this extra work will be paid.

Can the Minister say when?

It has been decided to pay anyway.

To pay before Christmas?

I think so.
