Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Proposal.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the housing committee of Dublin Corporation propose to enter into an arrangement with a firm whereby Dublin Corporation, in consideration of the sum of £250, paid to them by the firm, will house a small family now in occupation of a house owned and required for factory extension by that firm; and, as this action interferes with the statutory duty of the corporation to house persons dependent on the corporation for housing and relieves concerns or individuals able to provide alternative accommodation from their obligation to do so, if he will state what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have ascertained from the corporation that the arrangement contemplated is as stated in the first part of the Deputy's question save that it involves the proposed rehousing by the corporation of a large family at present living in overcrowded conditions in the Iveagh Trust Buildings. It is intended that the resultant vacancy in the trust buildings would be allocated to the family referred to by the Deputy.
