Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet sanctioned the proposals of the county manager for Laoighis-Offaly for an increase in the wages of road workers in those counties; and, if so, if he will state when the increase was sanctioned, from what date it was payable, and the amount of the increase.

The proposals of the county manager for Laoighis-Offaly for an increase in the wages of road workers in Laoighis have been sanctioned. The increase, which was sanctioned on 19th November, 1952, is payable from 13th October, 1952, and amounts to 5/- a week.

No proposals have been received for an increase in the wages of road workers in Offaly.

Could the Minister say whether the proposal of the county manager for an increase to the road workers in Laoighis and Offaly was based on an increase of 5/- per week, or whether a larger amount was submitted to the Minister and only 5/-sanctioned?

I have covered that in my reply. I said:—

"The proposals of the county manager for Laoighis-Offaly for an increase in the wages of the road workers in Laoighis have been sanctioned."

Then he only applied for an increase of 5/-?
