Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Free Dock.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will take steps to provide a customs free dock at the port of Dublin for the purpose of developing merchandise shipping.

The question of establishing a customs free area in the port of Dublin has been raised from time to time.

The provision of customs free facilities would involve reserving an area of the port exclusively for this purpose. The area would have to be provided with all the usual portal facilities, including berthage and warehousing. There has been no indication that these facilities, if provided, would attract additional business to the port on a scale which would justify the heavy expenditure involved.
