Vol. 135 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Córas Iompair Éireann Bus Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) on what date Córas Iompair Éireann will put their increased bus services into operation; (b) the nature of the increases and (c) the areas in which the increased services will be operated.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is now in a position to say when a bus service will be provided for Mount Merrion and Redesdale, Stillorgan.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there is a shortage of buses on the West Cabra route; and, if so, if it is proposed to augment this service in the near future.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 13, 14 and 15 together.

I would refer the Deputies to the statements issued by Córas Iompair Éireann which appeared in the public Press on 20th and 21st November. These statements indicate that increased bus services will be provided at peak hours on routes 35, 40 and 40a to Finglas, Ballygall Road and St. Margaret's as from 1st December; that, from the same date the No. 6 service from Nelson Pillar will be extended from Proby Square to Yankee Terrace, Newtown Park Avenue; that Córas Iompair Éireann hopes to extend the No. 14 bus service to Annamoe Drive, North Circular Road, and to restore the No. 15 bus service to its original city terminus at Upper O'Connell Street before Christmas; and that it is probable that the new Kilmacud service will be in operation by mid-December.

I understand that other improvements will be announced shortly and that these will include increased services for the Ballyfermot, West Cabra and other areas.
