Vol. 135 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishmeal and Quick-Freeze Station.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the North County Dublin fishermen are anxious for a fishmeal factory and quick-freezing station to be erected in North County Dublin; and, if so, if he will make a statement in the matter.

An Bord Iascaigh Mhara has at present in operation fishmeal and quick-freezing plants at Killybegs. The location of any additional plants which it may be decided to erect with the aid of State funds will be a matter for decision having regard to the board's experience with the plants at Killybegs and the availability of adequate and regular supplies of suitable fish at the various fishing centres around the coast. The Deputy may be assured that the suitability of sites in North County Dublin will receive every consideration by the board. I may add that there is no restriction as far as the fishery authority is concerned on the establishment of such plants by private enterprise.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary make available to other parties the results of the experiments of the board in the operation of the fishmeal plant and the Frigidaire plant at Killybegs?

That is the intention.
