Vol. 135 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Distribution of Bakers' Profits.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the percentage of profit and outlay allocated to bakers for distribution purposes, in fixing the wholesale and retail price of batch and pan bread.

The average percentage rate of profit on sales of batch bread is estimated to be 3.7 per cent. The corresponding average percentage for pan bread may be taken at approximately 5 per cent.

The average expenditure on distribution is estimated to be equivalent to 22/- per sack of flour converted into batch bread or approximately .73d. per lb. of bread. The difference between the cost of distributing batch and fancy bread is virtually negligible.
