Vol. 136 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed Airport at Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when he will make a final statement about the establishment of a major airport in Cork and if he will state whether the advice of the meteorological experts will be acted on; and further, whether the Midleton site is the only available site.

Examination of the various factors involved in the selection of a site for an airport at Cork is in progress and until it is completed I will not be in a position to make a final statement on the matter. The examination will cover a number of possible sites and the decision as to the most suitable site will take account of the meteorological and other conditions.

Can the Minister give us any idea as to when the report will be available in order to stop the publicity campaign between Deputy McGrath of Cork, and Deputy Corry of East Cork, and give the Cork Examinera chance?

I could not say when the report will be available. The investigation of sites is now proceeding.
